COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, The Swalec Stadium:
CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Glamorgan 308 & 59-1 Northants 215-8 dec (Glamorgan 5pts, Northants 4pts)
16 - 19 June 2009 (Play begins 1100 BST)
Wakely is a former England Under-19 international
Alex Wakely rescued Northants from a precarious overnight total of 28-3 with a career-best innings of 113 not out on day three against Glamorgan.
After just 65 minutes of play were possible on day two, Northants began needing 131 to avoid the follow on.
But Wakely's effort ensured that captain Nicky Boje could declare on 215-8, 93 runs behind Glamorgan's 308.
The home side then reached 59-1 at the close, a lead of 152, with Gareth Rees unbeaten on 36.
It was Wakely and Boje who started the day at the crease facing the seam attack of James Harris and David Harrison.
And the bowlers did not take long to reap a return from some early movement as Harrison struck in fourth over trapping Boje leg before to leave Northants on 37-4.
Wakely pressed on beside Mark Nelson and reached his half-century from 91 balls, shortly followed by the partnership half-century before Adam Shantry broke through to Nelson's stumps.
Northants were 100-5 at lunch with former South Africa all-rounder Andrew Hall looking comfortable at the crease.
The two had put on 84 together before Dean Cosker's slow left arm proved the undoing of Hall.
Shortly after former England spinner Robert Croft claimed his 950th first class wicket when he trapped David Willey lbw.
On 165-7 Wakely soldiered on to reach his maiden ton from 224 deliveries, and when Harrison reappeared to take Johannes van der Wath's wicket, Boje stepped in to declare.
