Jacques du Toit hit a six and a four off the last two balls as Leicestershire beat Durham by seven wickets at the Riverside.

Kyle Coetzer (39no) and Gareth Breese (37) helped Durham to 144-8, with teenage paceman Alex Wyatt taking 3-14 on his Twenty20 debut for the Foxes.

James Allenby (53) and skipper Paul Nixon (53no) then put on 82 for the third wicket.

But it was du Toit who came in to help Nixon take the Foxes home on 144-3.

Du Toit only faced three balls when, with 10 needed off the final over from Paul Collingwood, he came in after Allenby was caught at long on off the first ball.

Nixon and du Toit then swapped singles, the last of them a difficult chance to Breese at mid-wicket off the fourth ball to leave the Foxes needing seven to win off two balls.

But a straight six brought the scores level before du Toit finished it, with the field in, by lofting the last ball over the extra cover boundary.

Leicestershire's first win of the competition, at the third attempt, takes them level on two points with Durham and Yorkshire in the North Division.

Durham can only hope that they can keep in the running over the nest two games so that there is something to play for when David Warner, the Australian Twenty20 specialist they signed especially for this competition, finally arrives to play the final four group games.

They now play Nottinghamshire at home on Sunday (1730 BST), while Leicestershire host North Division leaders Lancashire (1730 BST).
