Superb Moore puts Worcs in charge

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP Division Two, New Road, day three (close) Worcestershire 450-8 (dec) & 296-3 (dec) v Derbyshire 343 & 34-0

Stephen Moore made his fourth County Championship century of the season as Worcestershire finished day three comfortably on top against Derbyshire.

The hosts bowled Derbys out for 343 in their first innings with Simon Jones taking 5-110 from his 28 overs.

They scored quickly to build on their lead of 107 and declared on 296-3 in their second innings, where Moore made a brilliant 156 from 168 balls.

Chasing 404 to win, Derbys finished the day 34-0 after 16 overs.

A dominant day in the field was tempered by the decision not to bowl Jones at the end of the day as a precaution because of tightness in his hamstring.

After the England fast bowler had wrapped up Derbys first innings, it was the Moore show as the opener producing a magnificent knock including 15 fours and four sixes, putting on 172 with Ben Smith (72 not out) for the third wicket.

They declared soon after Moore was bowled charging down the wicket to Greg Smith and left Derbyshire a nasty little period to survive, but openers Chris Rogers and Paul Borrington held out until stumps.
