Ackerman misses out on double ton

HD Ackerman fell one run short of a double hundred as Leicestershire built a substantial first innings total on a rain affected day at Grace Road.

Ackerman struck 29 fours and one six but was caught behind off Neil Carter in the ninth over of the morning.

The South African put on 120 with Tom Smith, who notched his maiden first-class fifty, while veteran spinner Ian Salisbury took five wickets.

Bears openers Darren Maddy and Navdeep Poonia then survived eight overs.
