Hampshire batsmen frustrate Kent

County Championship D1, Canterbury (day one, stumps):
Kent v Hampshire 312-5

A third-wicket partnership of 181 runs in 50 overs between Hampshire duo Michael Carberry and Michael Lumb put their side in control against Kent.

Hampshire struggled, with the early dismissal of Michael Brown and Sean Ervine leaving them 20-2.

But Carberry and Lumb took control after that to rack up the county's second-best partnership of the season.

Both were dismissed by Ryan McLaren but first Chris Benham and then Nic Pothas, unbeaten on 47, kept Kent at bay.
