County Championship D2, Derby, day one (close): Derbyshire 111-3 v Leicestershire
Australian Chris Rogers marked his return to first-class action with a half-century on a rain interrupted first day against Leicestershire.
Rogers, who took a break during the Twenty20 Cup, hit 52 from 89 balls as Derbyshire finished on 111-3 from 30.1 overs before rain ended the day's play.
Wavell Hinds was unbeaten on 33 when the rain came, shortly after Tom Smith got Dominic Telo out for only eight.
Nadeem Malik and James Allenby were the
other Leicestershire wicket takers.
They had put Derbyshire under real pressure after Paul Nixon put the home side in, with Malik getting rid of Dan Birch and then Telo caught by Boeta Dippenaar to leave Derbys on 15-2.
But Rogers and Hinds batted beautifully in seaming, swinging conditions and they were dominant until Rogers drove at Allenby and Dippenaar took a stunning catch at slip.
It was the last action of the day and skipper Rikki Clarke was yet to face a ball when play was eventually abandoned.
