Surrey recorded only their second win of the Twenty20 Cup campaign, denting Kent's hopes with a six-run victory.

The Surrey openers shared 66 before Ali Brown chased a wide one in the seventh over, but Abdul Razzaq hit two sixes in his 39 to help the visitors to 166-7.

Kent were soon 55-5 but Azhar Mahmood hit seven fours and a six and shared 68 in 36 balls with Yasir Arafat (27).

With 14 needed off the final over, Mahmood was caught off the first ball and Razzaq struck again to claim 4-17.

Kent began the day in the second automatic qualification place but defeat and the tie between Hampshire and Essex dropped them to fourth.

Razzaq revived Surrey, and compiled a partnership of 53 in seven overs with Jon Batty, who fell to Mahmood off a leading edge.

In the penultimate over Razzaq smashed a full toss to Robert Key at backward point and skipper Mark Ramprakash, in an unfamiliar number eight slot, holed out to deep square leg for seven.

Kent did not start well, losing Joe Denly for seven in the fourth over, driving a full toss to short cover, and Rob Key lofted to deep square leg to make it 25-2.

Chris Schofield added two wickets in an over but Kent's Pakistan duo put their side back in contention in a thrilling fightback.

Mahmood's fine innings ended with a catch on the boundary, and with the requirement seven runs from two balls, Ryan McLaren was caught at deep mid-wicket.
