Voges and Wagh fire Notts to win

Wagh combined with Voges to lead Nottinghamshire to victory

A quickfire 69 not out from Adam Voges gave Nottinghamshire a seven-wicket victory over Lancashire and stretched their lead at the top of Division One.

The hosts began the day on 33-1, chasing just 112 more runs to win, but Sajid Mahmood gave them a scare by removing Matt Wood and Paul Franks.

However, Voges combined with Mark Wagh for an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 111 to finish the game before lunch.

Voges thumped 14 fours off just 60 balls, while Wagh made 43 not out.

Lancashire were hampered by a weakened bowling attack, with Dominic Cork forced out of action on Friday morning following a back spasm overnight.

Having gone into the game with six seamers missing through injury or England duty, captain Stuart Law relied heavily on Mahmood, and the former England seamer responded impressively.

Nightwatchman Paul Franks was leg before wicket off the first delivery, although there was a suspicion that the ball pitched outside leg, before Mahmood demolished Wood's off-stump five balls later, beating the opener for pace with a fast, full-pitched ball.

Wagh and Voges saw him off, though, and opted for aggression against the medium pace of Steven Croft, with Voges hitting the all-rounder for three fours in one over and then despatching Mahmood for two more boundaries.

The flurry of runs brought the target down to 62 and although Mahmood switched ends with left-arm spinner Gary Keedy, the 26-year-old could not find the breakthrough.

Wagh twice cut him over the slips to the third man boundary before Voges struck three more crisp fours and then cut Keedy through point to finish the game inside the first 20 overs of the day.
