Poor weather and some solid Northants batting ensured their match at Grace Road will head for a draw unless the captains collaborate over a result.

Starting day three on 144-1 in reply to Leicestershire's 527, the visitors lost two further wickets in reaching 276.

Just 37.4 overs were possible, enough time for David Sales and Rob White to chalk up unbeaten half-centuries.

Niall O'Brien made 78 before Dillon du Preez had him caught behind and another Paul Nixon catch saw off Riki Wessels.

The Northants wicket-keeper was dismissed by Nadeem Malik having made 33 from 92 balls.
