Hemp falls short of Bristol ton

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO
Bristol, day two of four (close): Glamorgan 208-6 v Glos

Glamorgan progressed to 208-6 after another weather-affected day against Gloucestershire at Bristol.

Overnight rain delayed the start until 1530 BST and then only 35.3 overs were bowled before bad light ended the day.

Glamorgan resumed on 56-2 and skipper David Hemp took 11 from Steve Kirby's opening over, the England Lions paceman scratching ruefully at damp footmarks.

Hemp hit 17 fours and batted for almost four hours before he was well caught low at second slip for 87.

Kirby tried his luck at the Pavilion End and removed Jamie Dalrymple, who got an inside edge into his off-stump, swishing his bat in annoyance before heading to the pavilion.

Hemp was severe on anything over-pitched and his fifty came from 91 balls, featuring 10 fours.

Mark Wallace also looked in good form and the pair produced the best batting of the match in a fifth-wicket partnership of 84 in 18 overs.

Wallace had hit six fours in his 43 when he was beaten by seam movement from home skipper Jon Lewis, the pick of the bowlers, and trapped lbw with the score 186-5 in the 55th over.

Hemp received treatment for an unfortunate blow in the groin area, and was dispatched shortly afterwards by Anthony Ireland.

Former England spinner Robert Croft began his innings with three successive fours off Ireland before the light closed in at just after 1800 BST.
