FRIENDS PROVIDENT TROPHY The Oval: Middlesex 315-6 (50 overs) beat Surrey 248 all out (43 overs) by 58 runs (D/L method)

England batsman Andrew Strauss struck his highest one-day score with a spectacular 163 as Middlesex beat London rivals Surrey in the FP Trophy.
His efforts propelled Middlesex to a formidable 315-6, sharing a stand of 98 with England colleague Owais Shah (98).
Surrey were bowled out for 248 despite an opening stand of 89 between Scott Newman (65) and James Benning (47).
After a rain intervention, debutant Gareth Berg took two wickets in two balls to ruin any chance Surrey had.
Strauss, 31, has not played one-day cricket for England since their last game of the World Cup, on 21 April 2007.
But he made use of a short leg-side boundary to clip his four sixes - hitting new Surrey signing Usman Afzaal over the fence three times in one over.
The match also saw return to county action for former England all-rounder Chris Lewis who has been out of the game since 2000.
Lewis, 40, who has signed to play Twenty20 only this season, was drafted in because Matt Nicholson, James Ormond and Saqlain Mushtaq were all ill.
But Strauss took a liking to his seam bowling, hitting 45 of his first 100 runs off the veteran, who conceded 51 in six overs.
