James Pipe and Jake Needham steered the visitors to a respectable total.
They shared an eighth-wicket stand of 32 from just four overs with Needham smashing a huge straight six off Chris Jordan in the penultimate over.
Newman and James Benning brought up their fifty stand for the opening wicket in 5.1 overs.
Left-hander Newman was eventually out in the 10th over, giving Greg Smith a wicket in his first over by driving straight to extra-cover.
Stewart Walters was superbly caught by a diving Graham Wagg at square-leg but Newman and Benning's exploits were more than enough.
