Harbhajan Singh took four wickets to help Surrey into a strong position going into the final day against Worcestershire at Guildford.
Harbhajan finished with 4-64 as Surrey dismissed the visitors for 217, 152 runs behind Surrey's first-innings 369.
Surrey enforced the follow-on and Worcestershire were 46-0 second time round when bad light ended play.
Stephen Moore and Phil Jaques were unbeaten on 31 and 12 respectively with the visitors trailing by 106 runs.
