Notts batsmen make hay at Lord's
County Championship D1, Lord's (day two, close): Nottinghamshire 601-6 v Middlesex 230

Three Nottinghamshire batsmen hit massive scores on a sunny day at Lord's to put Middlesex under the cosh after two days of this Division Two match.

Will Smith (141), Stephen Fleming (192) and Samit Patel (151 not out) mocked the hosts' bowlers by raking up 601-6 in just 136 overs of general mayhem.

Owais Shah bowled one over of part-time spin which disappeared for 26.

Middlesex, virtual certainties for relegation, are already 371 runs behind, and have a vast amount to do.

Patel, hitting his first championship hundred for Nottinghamshire, faced 138 balls with 15 fours and eight sixes.

The 21-year-old Patel, a former England Under-19 star, went from 100 to 150 in 17 balls, Notts scoring 481 runs in the day.
