County Championship D2, Bath: Somerset 335-9 v Surrey
Somerset's Peter Trego blasted an unbeaten 103 as Surrey let a strong position slip through their hands on the opening day of the Bath Festival.
Seven catches went down as Somerset recovered from 38-4 to make 335-9 after losing the toss on a green pitch.
Martin Bicknell suffered five misses but took 5-86, with Andy Caddick caught for his 1,000 Championship wicket.
Trego led the recovery with his second Championship ton of the season off 123 balls, with three sixes and 12 fours.
The game changed when Bicknell and Mohammad Akram were replaced with figures of 2-24 and 2-28 respectively, both from nine overs.
Surrey's back-up seamers were nowhere near as effective as James Hildreth (42) and Keith Parsons (54) settled into a stand of 97.
Akram returned to break the stand but Somerset's confidence had improved by then.
Last-man Charl Willoughby was swinging lustily without connecting when the batsmen accepted an offer of bad light at 1730 BST.
