County Championship D2, Derby, day one (stumps): Derbyshire 132-0 v Leicestershire
Michael di Venuto put Derbyshire on course for a good first-innings total before rain meant no play was possible after lunch against Leicestershire.
Di Venuto cracked 17 fours in his 90 off 123 balls to dominate an opening stand of 132 with Steve Stubbings.
Stubbings was pedestrian by contrast, making 38 off 93 balls, but only 36 overs were bowled before the rain came.
Young Foxes paceman Stuart Broad came in for particularly rough treatment, conceding 31 off only four overs.
Graeme Welch called correctly for the sixth time in seven games and opted to bat on a pitch tinged with green and in overcast conditions.
The openers did have some awkward moments against Pakistan paceman Mohammad Asif, who generated swing and seam movement as he beat the bat numerous times.
But the other bowlers tended to pitch too short, particularly Broad, who was pulled, cut and driven for six fours by Di Venuto.
