Ramprakash double ton slays Glos
County Championship D2, The Oval, day two (stumps): Surrey 608-7 v Gloucestershire 207

Veteran Mark Ramprakash hit 222 runs in the day as Surrey dominated Gloucestershire at The Brit Oval.

Ramprakash, 54 overnight, was on 276 by stumps - three short of his personal best - with the Brown Caps 608-7.

On his 23rd birthday, James Benning contributed 112 to a fifth-wicket stand of 187 and Azhar Mahmood (39) helped put on a further 110.

Without skipper Jon Lewis, the visitors were toothless, although Martyn Ball (5-115) took two late wickets.

Ramprakash's best is 279 not out, made against Nottinghamshire at Whitgift School in 2003.

He was dropped once, a hard chance to Ball at gully, when he was 178.

And his four century partnerships are a Surrey record by an individual batsman in one innings.
