Mark Ramprakash hit his fifth century against Leicestershire as Surrey
dominated day one of their Championship match at Grace Road.
With Mark Butcher and Jonathan Batty also contributing half-centuries, Surrey closed on an imposing 320-4.
Ramprakash (113) commanded centre stage on a lifeless pitch after Butcher won the toss, despite being dropped on 31.
The 80th century of his career came off
203 balls with 14 fours and a six before he was lbw to Darren Maddy.
Ramprakash boosted his average in matches against Leicestershire to a staggering 91.5 in 17 innings.
Butcher never looked in prime form but passed 15,000 first-class career runs in a gritty innings.
He and Rikki Clarke saw Surrey safely through to the close despite a lively spell from Pakistan paceman Mohammad Asif, making his Championship debut.
