County Championship D2, The Oval, day four: Surrey 308 & 476-8 drew with Derbyshire 492
Surrey 5 pts, Derbyshire 8 pts
Rikki Clarke continued his fine early season form to help Surrey bat their way to a draw against Derbyshire.
The all-rounder struck 130 as the hosts reached 476-8, a lead of 292, before the captains agreed to call a halt.
Surrey had resumed on 224-3 but were never in real danger despite losing Ali Brown and captain Mark Butcher early.
Clarke was well supported by Azhar Mahmood (46) and Jimmy Ormond (41), meaning Derbyshire left with eight points and the home side five.
It maintained Surrey's record of not losing in the opening round of Championship matches since 1990.
When Brown was brilliantly caught by Travis Birt at deep mid-off and Butcher (19) edged to slip two overs later their lead was just 62, but Clarke then took over.
He completed his century off 152 balls immediately after tea and the match was drifting when the players shook hands at 1720 BST.
