County Championship D1, Edgbaston, day three (stumps): Warwickshire 217 & 69-2 v Hampshire 405 & 218-6
Warwickshire face a tall order to avoid defeat against Hampshire after being set 404 and slumping to 69-2.
The Bears added only 57 to their overnight 160-5, with Shane Warne claiming 5-52 and Hants scored quickly to add to their 188-run lead.
James Adams set them on their way with 85 off 105 balls and Dimi Mascarenhas and Dominic Thornely stepped up the scoring before they declared on 218-6.
Chris Tremlett then took two wickets before rain came late in the day.
Only Jim Troughton, who completed his first century at Edgbaston in three years, played Warne with any confidence in the first innings.
The Hants skipper decided not to enforce the follow-on and Adams vindicated the decision with a fluent innings to make a Championship-best score.
Thornely smashed 21 off an over from Dougie Brown, including three consecutive sixes. The second one shattered the window of a radio commentary box forcing the occupants to dive for cover.
Neil Carter began the Bears' reply positively, pulling James Bruce for two huge sixes, but he chipped Tremlett to mid-on and Trott played on in the tall seamer's next over.
