Runs were very hard to come by as 18 wickets fell on day one between Notts and Surrey at Trent Bridge.

Surrey, who won the toss and batted, managed just 136 inside 49 overs with Greg Smith the pick of the attack with 3-33 and Mark Ramprakash hitting 42.

Darren Bicknell was caught off brother Martin (4-42) in the first over of the reply and the wickets kept tumbling.

Skipper Jason Gallian dug out 37 and Mark Ealham a brisk 34 not out as Notts closed on 185-8, 49 runs ahead.
