Rikki Clarke hit 46 then took three wickets in an over as Surrey completed the Twenty20 double over Middlesex.

Middlesex were 78-4 after 11 overs in reply to the Lions' 180-7 when a storm hit, the Duckworth/Lewis method handing Surrey victory by 22 runs.

Clarke helped lift the home side from early trouble at 27-2, but fell lbw to Jamie Dalrymple a shot short of 50.

Joining the attack in the seventh over he dismissed Scott Styris (two), Ed Smith (33) and Ed Joyce next ball.

In worsening light, captain Ben Hutton and Dalrymple both hit sixes off Surrey's spinners in an attempt to reach the par score but could not beat the weather.

Clarke shared a 50-run stand for the third wicket with Jonathan Batty (39) and a further 43 for the fourth with Scott Newman.

But Surrey's total would have been far less impressive were it not for the 24 runs Tim Murtagh took off Melvyn Betts.

The pace bowler was swung over cover, hit through midwicket twice and then saw the long-on fielder touch the rope to allow another boundary.
