County Championship D1, The Oval, day four: Surrey 217 & 404 lost to Nottinghamshire 692-7d by an innings and 71 runs
Points: Nottinghamshire 22, Surrey 3
Nottinghamshire rocketed to the top of the Division One table with an innings and 71-run win over Surrey at The Oval.
Rain threatened to stand in the visitors' way when, with Surrey hanging by a thread on 376-9, players were forced from the field for two hours.
But the weather relented, and during the evening session Graeme Swann (4-94) had James Ormond caught behind to dismiss Surrey for 404.
Mark Ramprakash, 92 overnight, was dismissed for 107 - his 76th century.
The skipper, who was bowled by off-spinner Swann, put on 101 for the seventh wicket with Martin Bicknell.
Bicknell fought hard with a dogged 59 before being trapped in front by Mark Ealham (3-81), but no amount of Surrey resistance was enough to deny last year's Division Two champions their second win of the campaign.
For Surrey, it was a match they would rather forget after being found guilty of ball-tampering on the opening day's play.
This was their first innings defeat since Kent accounted for them in 2003.
