Jones fires Dragons into action
Totesport League D1, Old Trafford: Lancashire 160-8 (41.2 overs) v Glamorgan
No result - rain

Simon Jones set a new one-day career best as Glamorgan began the defence of their Totesport League crown strongly.

But rain gave Lancashire a share of the points, with no play possible after the Lightning stumbled to 160-8.

Playing just his 13th one-day game for his county, Jones' first seven-over spell brought figures of 3-17.

Captain Robert Croft chipped in with two lbw dismissals, including Iain Sutcliffe for 36, but Lancs recovered thanks to Kyle Hogg's unbeaten 41.

Rain drove them from the field after 41.2 overs and prevented Glamorgan batting at all.

Jones had never taken more than two wickets in a one-day innings before, and has appeared in just two one-day internationals for England.

Australian Stuart Law was his first victim, caught behind off a slower ball.

Mal Loye was bowled and Mark Chilton caught by Matthew Elliott at slip.

"The older I've got the easier I've found bowling," said Jones.

"My control has got better over the last couple of years and that showed today."
