County Championship D1, Rose Bowl (day three): Hampshire 714-5 dec beat Nottinghamshire 213 & 313 by an innings and 188 runs
Hants 22 pts, Notts 2
Udal celebrated his England call-up with a fine performance
England call-up Shaun Udal took his second four-wicket haul of the match as Hampshire thrashed champions Nottinghamshire at the Rose Bowl.
Bowled out for 313 after following on, Notts lost by an innings and 188 runs.
Darren Bicknell, who earlier in the day won a contract extension, was out for 97 and Chris Read smashed a quick 63.
But Notts were in no position to save the match, let alone win it, after being totally outplayed during the first two days of the match.
Udal's 4-70 in 12 overs followed his 4-39 in the first innings.
Not for the first time during the summer, he out-bowled his illustrious skipper and fellow spinner Shane Warne.
Warne sent down 13 overs on Friday, but his return was 1-67 - albeit the big wicket of Notts skipper and Kiwi rival Stephen Fleming.
That said, at one point the Australian was bowling at a left-hander with all nine fielders on the off-side to the left-handed Bicknell.
Udal's victims included Bicknell and Read, before he picked up two tail-enders.
Sussex also won on Friday, but it is Hampshire who claim the £40,000 prize for coming second.
"Over the season there are a lot of ifs and buts about the way it panned out. But don't take anything away from Notts - they have played some good cricket and they are worthy winners," said Hampshire manager Paul Terry.
