A century by Nick Knight added to Surrey's relegation worries as they trailed Warwickshire by 68 runs at the end of day three at Edgbaston.
Knight notched 117- his second hundred in successive games - as his team posted a first innings total of 338.
Surrey were grateful for three bonus points after taking only one from their first-innings total of 225.
But they lost Scott Newman, caught off Dougie Brown, when they batted again, reaching 45-1 at the close of play.
