Adams century steers Sussex home
Totesport League Division Two, Hove: Sussex 234-8 (45 overs) beat Surrey 230-6 (45 overs) by two wickets

Chris Adams' unbeaten 110 steered leaders Sussex to a last-ball win over Surrey and all but guaranteed promotion from Totesport League Division Two.

Adams held his nerve with 11 needed off the final over, Mushtaq Ahmed hitting the winning runs off the last ball.

Mushtaq had earlier taken 2-35 off his nine overs as Surrey made a respectable 230-6 in their 45 overs, Alistair Brown hitting 49 and Rikki Clarke 45.

But Adams, who lost partners at regular intervals, judged the chase perfectly.

He hit 10 fours in his 125-ball knock, putting on 90 with Matt Prior (42) for the second wicket.

With 11 needed off the final over, Adams twice refused singles, but Azhar Mahmood bowled a no-ball which produced an extra two runs from the subsequent free hit.

Another wide aided Sussex further and with two needed, Adams pushed a single off the penultimate ball before Mushtaq clinched victory.
