County Championship D2, Northampton, day four: Northamptonshire 140 & 466-6 bt Derbyshire 219 & 204 by 182 runs
Northants 17pts, Derbyshire 4pts
Damien Wright brought matters to a swift conclusion
Northants needed only two deliveries on the final morning to complete a 182-run home victory over Derbyshire.
After Andy Gray took a single from the first ball, Damien Wright bowled Ian Hunter for a duck with the next.
It completed a remarkable turnaround for the home side, who were bowled out for 140 in their first innings and conceded a lead of 79.
Martin Love hit 177 to set the visitors 388 and spinner Jason Brown took 5-61 as Derbyshire remained without a win.
Coach Mike Hendrick blamed a poor bowling effort in Northamptonshire's second innings for their latest defeat.
"From the beginning of the season we've struggled to put scores together in the first innings, but have in the second.
"So to have a lead after the first innings in this match was very important to us, but we couldn't capitalise on it," he said.
"We've had a discussion about what we should be doing and hopefully we'll be able to put that into practice for the rest of the season.
"We seem to do well when our backs are against the wall but we need to reproduce that to dictate the game. Until we do that we're always going to make life difficult for ourselves."
