Rain precluded any play on the final day between Derbyshire and Essex as the Division Two fixture at Derby ended in an inevitable draw.

The weather had meddled with the previous three days, and only 193.1 overs were bowled in the entire match.

The draw helps neither side, both of whom have yet to register a victory and sit in the bottom half of the table.

Derbyshire, who scored 389 in their first innings, grabbed one more bonus point than Essex, who scored 222-3.
