Worcs exploit mad half hour
County Championship D1, day one (stumps) Worcester: Surrey 16-2 v Worcestershire

Surrey lost two wickets in the seven overs available against Worcestershire at New Road on Wednesday.

Rain prevented play before 4pm, with home skipper Ben Smith winning the toss and asking Surrey to bat.

And the bad weather returned half an hour later, by which time Mark Butcher had been caught behind for four and Mark Ramprakash run out for nought.

Butcher was keen to play despite a broken finger but Graham Thorpe is still out with an Achilles problem.

Worcestershire: S D Peters, S C Moore, G A Hick, B F Smith (Capt), V S Solanki, A J Hall, G J Batty, A J Bichel, Kabir Ali, S J Rhodes (Wkt), M S Mason.

Surrey: S A Newman, M A Butcher, M R Ramprakash, G P Thorpe, J N Batty (Capt, Wkt), A D Brown, A J Hollioake, M P Bicknell, I D K Salisbury, J Ormond, T J Murtagh.
