Surrey get off the mark
Totesport League D1, The Oval:
Surrey 268 all out beat Essex 237 all out by 31 runs

Indian paceman Zaheer Khan marked his Surrey debut with two wickets in his first over to lead his new side to their first win of any kind this year.

Zaheer, on an unpaid contract, took 2-36 at The Oval as Surrey beat Essex by 31 runs in the Totesport League.

His strikes left Essex, chasing 269 to win, struggling on 1-2 and they were bowled out for 237 in the 43rd over despite Andy Flower's dogged 70.

Scott Newman hit a 104-ball 106 and Jon Batty 66 as Surrey earlier posted 268.
