Surrey remain winless in any competition this season but they battled hard on the final day against Middlesex at The Oval to force a draw.

Resuming play on 11-1 and still 117 runs in arrears, the hosts were never in danger of defeat as Scott Newmann led them to 300-4 declared.

Opener Newman made 87, striking 16 boundaries from 205 balls faced.

Mark Ramprakash added 66 and Ali Brown an unbeaten 64, while seamer Chad Keegan returned 2-46.

It was another good result for Middlesex, who are yet to taste defeat this season and sit just five points behind leaders Kent in third place.
