Middlesex battle into lead
County Championship D1, The Oval, day two (stumps): Surrey 359; Middlesex 363-5

Ed Joyce and Jamie Dalrymple shared a fifth-wicket stand of 298 to put Middlesex ahead of Surrey at The Oval.

Joyce edged Bicknell to slip for 123 just before bad light ended day two with the visitors 363-5 in reply to Surrey's first innings 359.

Dalrymple faced 234 balls and hit 29 fours in his unbeaten 182, with his eyes on last year's career best 236.

Ormond had Sven Koenig (nine) caught behind, Ben Hutton out for 15 and Paul Weekes made just seven.
