County Championship D1, The Oval (day one, stumps): Surrey 359; Middlesex 23-0
Tim Murtagh hit a remarkable 74 not out at number 10 on day one of Surrey's Division One Championship match at home to London rivals Middlesex.
The hosts had been in trouble at 126-6 and even though they recovered to 253-9 they remained firmly on the back foot.
But Murtagh crushed his previous best score in first-class cricket of 22 with a fine 94-ball innings, adding 106 for the last wicket with James Ormond.
Surrey were finally all out for 359, with Middlesex 23-0 in reply.
