New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming could be poised for a move to Surrey next season.
Surrey coach Steve Rixon says Fleming, who is leading the Black Caps in the Champions Trophy, is one of a number of players that have been approached.
"Several players have been spoken to, one of them being Stephen," Rixon told The Dominion Post.
"We've got four players in our sights at the moment but I can't really say too much until the end of the week."
Should Fleming take up the offer, believed to be for two years, it will be his third stint in county cricket following spells with Middlesex in 2001 and Yorkshire last year.
But Surrey face competition from Somerset, who are willing to offer Fleming the captaincy in an attempt to persuade him to spend the summer at taunton.
"I would imagine he would be a much sought after commodity and will play the market," Somerset chief executive Peter Anderson said earlier this month.
Fleming is the longest serving captain in international cricket and one of the world's top batsmen.
He has scored more than 11,700 runs in Tests and one-day internationals since making his debut in 1994.
