County Championship D1, Lord's, day one (stumps):
Surrey 164-2 v Middlesex
Surrey had the better of a rain-shortened contest in the London derby at Lord's, reaching 164-2 on day one of this Championship clash.
Scott Newman struck a dazzling 86 off 78 balls and was threatening to register a century before lunch before falling to Nantie Hayward.
Eleven runs later, Chad Keegan ended Jon Batty's innings on 35 to leave the 2002 champions on 130-2.
But Mark Ramprakash and James Benning then settled into a partnership.
The highlight of Newman's innings was an upper cut six off the first ball of Hayward's second spell.
The South African paceman finished with nine overs costing 56.
