Surrey 179-7 lost to Northamptonshire 191-5 by five wickets (D-L Method)
Northants won by five wickets to condemn Surrey to Totesport League relegation one season after they won Division One title.
In a rain-hit match, Surrey slumped to 50-5 after winning the toss before managing 179-7 from 41 overs.
Set a revised target of 189, Northants won with 13 balls to spare thanks to a superb 86 not out from Usman Afzaal.
The win means Northants have a hope of remaining in the top flight of the one-day league if they beat Kent.
Aussie paceman Paul Rofe claimed 3-23 for the hosts, while Azhar Mahmood and Ali Brown hit fifties to dig Surrey out of a hole.
