Kent bravely held off Surrey to claim a draw as the two battle for the runners-up position in Division One.
Surrey had resumed on 337-6 and reached maximum batting points before declaring on 402-8, Alistair Brown hitting 85.
Michael Bevan continued his poor form after joining Kent late as he fell for a duck, leaving his total in his last five innings at 17.
But a gutsy unbeaten 50 by Matthew Dennington and 48 for Ian Butler saved the day for Kent.
