County Championship D1, Canterbury, day one (stumps): Kent 139-8 v Surrey
Azhar Mahmood and Martin Bicknell shared seven wickets as Surrey reduced Kent to 139-8 on day one at Canterbury.
In between several showers, Kent captain David Fulton was made to pay for choosing to bat first, although he top-scored with 57.
Bicknell had Ed Smith caught at slip for a duck and dismissed Alex Loudon and Michael Bevan in succession.
Fulton was Mahmood's first victim and the first of five wickets to fall for 36 runs late in the day.
Kent added spinner Rob Ferley to the XI which held leaders Warwickshire to a draw at Edgbaston last weekend.
Surrey stuck with the XI which thrashed Lancashire by an innings and 55 runs.
Spinner Ian Salisbury, meanwhile, has undergone knee surgery and will not play again this summer, with his rehabilitation period expected to last for up to four months.
