Surrey leave Lancs in daze
County Championship D1, Whitgift School, day one (stumps): Surrey 51-1 v Lancashire 210

Lancashire endured a nightmare start to their relegation battle with Surrey as they tumbled to 210 all out.

And the home side had no such trouble as they reached 148-2 at Whitgift School, Scott Newman making 61 and Mark Ramprakash a patient 55.

The Red Rose county won the toss and chose to bat first, but lost their first four wickets for 21 runs.

Chris Schofield managed 69, and a stand of 71 with Glen Chapple but both men fell to Azhar Mahmood, who took 4-40.

Martin Bicknell returned from a groin injury to open the attack and finished with 3-41.

Lancashire's injury crisis saw six first-teamers unavailable. Captain Warren Hegg reinjured his hamstring during Saturday's Twenty20 semi-final defeat to the same opponent.

Carl Hooper again leads the side and Jamie Haynes keeps wicket.
