Ramprakash was just 21 runs short of 300 when Surrey's innings was over

County Championship D1, Whitgift School, day two (stumps): Surrey 693 v Nottinghamshire 224-8
Mark Ramprakash was denied the chance to score the first triple century of his career but not before Surrey compiled a mammoth total.
Ramprakash was stranded on 279 not out - his highest first-class score and a knock which boasted 40 boundaries, four sixes and spanned almost nine hours.
But Ramprakash was indebted to an excellent effort from the tail as Surrey, 488-8 overnight, added another 205 runs for the remaining two wickets.
Number 10 Ian Salisbury made a run-a-ball 65, while last man Saqlain Mushtaq was equally effective in notching 50.
A punished Nottinghamshire outfit then stumbled to 20-3 early in their reply as Martin Bicknell (5-42) ripped out the top-order.
Russell Warren (76) and Kevin Pietersen (79) fought back valiantly, but already Surrey look booked for an innings win that will see their championship lead extended.
