National League D1, The Oval: Surrey 322/7 (45 overs) beat Kent 316/7 (45 overs) by 6 runs
Surrey squeezed a six-run victory despite the best efforts of Kent's batsmen to stay top of the National League.
Ed Smith hit a lightning-fast 99 and Matthew Walker an unbeaten 80 off 62 balls but it was not enough to take the Spitfires past Surrey's mammoth 322-7.
Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who had earlier smashed 70 off 41 balls, took the vital wicket, bowling Smith to end a 162-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Mark Ramprakash provided the bulk of the Lions' total, hitting a delightful unbeaten 107 off just 91 balls, including nine fours and two sixes.
Peter Trego was the pick of the Kent bowlers with 4-66.
