Championship leaders Surrey did not have their way against Middlesex at Lord's.

Ben Hutton scored his second century in as many County Championships games and Andy Strauss made a useful 47 as Middlesex posted 311-7 on the first day.

Hutton scored 101 off 184 balls, including 10 fours and four sixes, before being bowled by spinner Ian Salisbury.

But veteran Martin Bicknell was the pick of the Surrey bowlers with 5-71.

At stumps, Dion Nash was unbeaten on 22 and Ashley Noffke was two not out.
