Surrey ease to victory
County Championship D1, Trent Bridge, day three
Surrey 393 beat Nottinghamshire 211 & 176 by an innings and six runs

Surrey 21 pts, Notts 3.75

It took them until the third match of the season but champions Surrey finally secured a win in the Frizzell County Championship with a big victory against Nottinghamshire on Sunday.

The home team's cause had looked totally dire overnight with just four second innings wickets remaining.

It was really a case of whether Surrey would be required to bat a second time.

Steve Elworthy and Paul Franks were the not out batsmen in the morning, but after moving the score from 94 to 128 Franks was caught by Ali Brown off Azhar Mahmood.

Greg Smith and Andrew Harris both fell cheaply before Elworthy and Charlie Shreck added 45 for the last wicket in a final hurrah of hitting.

Martin Bicknell had the last laugh, however, finishing with 5-83 when he dismissed Elworthy for 52 to end the match.

Later, Nottinghamshire heard they had been deducted a quarter of a point for a slow over rate.

Nottinghamshire: D J Bicknell, G E Welton, J E R Gallian (Capt), U Afzaal, B M Shafayat, C M W Read (Wkt), P J Franks, S Elworthy, A J Harris, G J Smith, C E Shreck.
