Twenty20 Cup, Northampton: Warwickshire 202-5 (20 overs) beat Northamptonshire 148-7 (20 overs) by 54 runs
Big-hitting Warwickshire gained the fourth Twenty20 Cup semi-final place as best runners-up after completing a 54-run win over Northamptonshire.
Chasing 203 for victory, the Steelbacks were immediately on the back foot after Neil Carter took two wickets in the second over of their reply.
Despite Graeme Swann's 42, Northants could only reach 148-7 from their allotted 20 overs.
The Bears finished second in the Midlands/West/Wales Division behind Gloucestershire but were the only second-placed side with four wins from their five matches.
Northants' own slender hopes of progression rested on a big win in this match.
Warwickshire's 202-5 came after Nick Knight took his run total in the competition to 235, carrying his bat to reach 69 not out from 47 deliveries.
The bulk of the runs flowed from a partnership of 86 for the fourth wicket with veteran Trevor Penney, whose 42 included two fours and two sixes.
