Sheriyar leaves New Road
The fast bowler came to an agreement with the New Road club that he would not serve out the final year of his contract. Tom Moody, Director of Cricket, at Worcestershire, said: "We are sorry to lose Alamgir. "He clearly feels his future lies elsewhere and we do not wish to stand in his way at this stage of his career." Moody made clear that Sheriyar has no county currently lined-up although he fully expected the left-armer to be in high demand. Now 28, Sheriyar enjoyed his most successful season in 1999, when he was the most successful bowler in the county circuit, taking 92 wickets. He faced a backlash the following season, managing only 28 wickets in all and was set to leave New Road at the end of the year. However, he eventually decided to stay on, taking 78 and 66 wickets in 2001 and 2002 before requesting his release once more. He started his first-class career at Leicestershire, making his debut in 1994, but failed to establish himself and moved to Worcestershire two years later. Sheriyar has twice claimed hat-tricks in first-class cricket. |
