Bears spoil Glamorgan's party
Norwich Union League D1, Cardiff: Warwickshire Bears 275-9 (45 overs) beat Glamorgan Dragons 201 (35.3 overs) by 74 runs
Points: Warwickshire 4, Glamorgan 0
Norwich Union League champions Glamorgan Dragon were denied a winning finale to their season as Warwickshire Bears clinched a 74-run victory at Sophia Gardens.
The Dragons were set 276 runs to chase after a powerful double-pronged assault from Dougie Brown and Dominic Ostler had put the Bears in a strong position.
Ostler eventually fell just three runs short of his century after a blistering 84-ball knock that saw him crack 11 fours and a six.
Brown's contribution was an even more rapid 73 off 52 balls. Ian Bell then added a crucial 31 coming in lower down the order.
Matthew Maynard led the chase for the Dragons, but once he was out lbw for 54 the home innings collapsed.
The last seven wickets fell in just 55 balls as the Dragons were all out for 201.
Skipper Michael Powell was the unlikely hero with the ball for the Bears, taking three for 44.
The victory takes them to third in the table, but the true celebrations were reserved for the home fans as the Dragons were presented with the Division One trophy and their winners medals.
