Anderson marks his arrival
David Byas
Byas hit nine fours and a six in a commendable knock
County Championship D1, Blackpool, day two of four: Somerset 140 & 21-1 v Lancashire 251 & 296

James Anderson was the hero as Lancashire assumed control of their clash with Somerset at Blackpool.

Somerset, who are second-bottom with only Yorkshire below them, started the day on 91 for five but slumped to just 140 all out as Anderson took six for 41.

Lancashire captain Warren Hegg hailed Anderson and believes the youngster is now bowling as quick as anyone else on the county circuit.

"From such a slight frame he generates some real pace and I thought he bowled especially well today," Hegg said.

"It is great to have him to come on behind our new-ball pair of Peter Martin and Glen Chapple."

Lancashire built on Anderson's heroics to put on 296 in their second innings and establish a 407-run lead.

David Byas hit a fine 81 to help Lancashire out of a tight early spot that saw them fall to six for two.

But Andy Caddick returned six for 84 to ensure the hosts would be kept in some sort of check.

Chris Schofield was also in good touch in making 77 - a knock that included seven fours and three sixes.

Peter Martin then made an early breakthrough, trapping skipper Jamie Cox in front of his stumps for one before Somerset reached 21 for one at day's close.
