Masters outclasses Durham
Kent's David Masters effects a run out
Masters was back to his best
Norwich Union League D1, Maidstone: Kent 244-9 (44 overs) beat Durham 79 all out (28.2 overs) by 165 runs

Durham's miserable season in the National League continued with a humiliating defeat at the hands of Kent at Maidstone.

Chasing 245 to win, Durham collapsed to a miserable 79 all out as paceman David Masters ran through the top order in a sensational opening spell.

Masters, who has only recently returned to the Kent team after injury virtually wiped out his 2001 season, took three wickets in one over as Durham slumped to 19 for five.

Having removed Nicky Peng for 11, Masters then trapped Jon Lewis second ball and bowled Andy Pratt with the very next delivery.

After a brief respite Masters dismissed Danny Law for 10 to complete his five-wicket haul and at 35 for six, Durham were dead and buried.

Some slight resistance from Mark Symington (22) and Graeme Bridge (24) took their side past 50 but spinner Min Patel mopped up the tail to record figures of two for six.

Earlier, Robert Key and James Hockley both managed 58 and added a century partnership for the second wicket after Amjad Khan departed early.

A mid-innings wobble threatened to undermine Kent but a late 21 from just 12 balls by James Golding got them back on track as they recorded 244 for nine from a rain-reduced 44 overs.
