Dean despatches Glamorgan
Kevin Dean takes a wicket
Dean enjoyed a day to remember
County Championship D2, Derby: Derbyshire 354 & 5-1 beat Glamorgan 157 & 200 by 9 wickets
Derbyshire 18.25 pts, Glamorgan 3 pts

Left-armer Kevin Dean achieved match figures of 10 for 109 as Glamorgan crumbled to a dismal two-day defeat.

Derbyshire, last season's bottom club, made it four wins out of five to extend their lead at the top of the table as 19 wickets went down in a frenetic day's play.

The only low note was the deduction of 0.75 of a point for their slow over rate.

Glamorgan began on 22 for two but had no answer to Dean, whose seven for 42 left them 197 behind on first innings.

The only prolonged resistance came from Robert Croft (34) and Mark Wallace (21), who put on 59 for the seventh wicket before the last four went down for only seven runs - all of them to Dean.

There was no sign of any fatigue as he then bowled David Hemp for seven and had Ian Thomas caught for a duck third ball to put the visitors immediately on the back foot in their second innings.

Skipper Steve James was lbw to Graeme Welch for 26 and an innings defeat looked a certainty when Michael Powell fell to Mohammad Ali for 33.

Glamorgan slumped to 85 for five but Adrian Dale fought hard for 101 minutes to make 40 and youngster Wallace added to his reputation with another well-played and sensible innings.

He was eventually caught behind off Derbyshire skipper Dominic Cork for 34 amd Dean had time to pick up another wicket by nipping out Croft for 15.

Cork ended the innings with four for 50 and although Derbyshire lost Steve Stubbings to Mike Kasprowicz for a duck, it took only 1.5 overs to knock off the four runs needed for victory.
